‘Paysages du Ciel’ ( Landscapes of Heaven) is both a step up and a new beginning.
A step up because it showcases Jean-Paul Prat’s music as never before, with a dream set-up of 49 musicians: piano, bass, drums, marimba, xylophone, 2 saxophones, 2 guitars, violin, 6 brass instruments and a string orchestra of 33 musicians. A new beginning because everything you could have imagined with the two quintet albums is now very real, reconnecting with the magnificent first album, ‘Jean-Paul Prat -Masal’ (1982) and going even further, especially thanks to the strings. This is highly coloured music, both powerful and soft, which takes us on a tour of our own inner depths.
It is also a step up due to the precision of the composer’s writing, interweaving melodies and rhythm like a musical goldsmith to serve bold harmony with measured dissonances.
