He considers himself to be happy and walks with contentment through a life full of stability and security. It seems as if all of life’s possibilities lie before him, ready to be collected. But suddenly and without warning, his way of looking at life changes. Did he take a wrong turn somewhere in the labyrinth of life? Or has he set himself goals that are not his own?
The progressive rockers Deafcon5 from Hamburg / Germany provide the answers to these philosophical questions in their fourth long player “Exit To Insight”, the conceptual idea of which was sown by a science fiction novel. Particularly noteworthy are the intro “Prologue”, which introduces the following story in the nature of a preface, as well as the tenth and final song “Who I (Really) Am”, which summarizes philosophically in the form of a poem. Between the intro and the outro of the album, the listener gets powerful songs arranged in not unpleasantly over lengths, a minimalist ballad in piano style and a progressiveness that never lets up in tension. The multi-faceted journey through the world of progressive hard rock offers energetic guitars and grooving rhythms alternating with balladesque sounds and playful synth sounds. Surprising changes of time and complex harmonies sometimes sound arbitrary, but are therefore very exciting and provide a solid and complementary foundation for the varied vocal lines. Rounded off by complex song structures and arrangements with various nuances, the songs enjoy a strong musical identity and a high level of recognition.
With a lot of passion and detailed work, the fourth studio album was produced in the local Tonbau43 studio in Hamburg in 2023. Prog mastermind Simone Mularoni from the Domination Studio in San Marino took over the mixing and mastering in February 2024, as with its predecessor F.E.E.L.
